PostSubject: Stripe City Zymurgists   Stripe City Zymurgists EmptyFri Jan 03, 2014 6:28 pm

Hi all,

Came across the post looking for replacement owners/expansion team owners.

My name is Jeff and I am relatively new to fantasy sports.  Just completed my 3rd year playing fantasy football and this spring will be my 3rd baseball season.  Last year I took over two orphaned dynasty teams.  I enjoy taking on teams that need some work.  Neither of those dynasty teams has salary cap/contracts which is why I am looking to find a team a in a league like the Gridiron Tavern.

I see I am the second Cleveland Browns fan to post here today.  It seems we need to get our thrills here in the fantasy world.

The team name Stripe City Zymurgists - reflects two of my hobbies - I am a sports official.  Not football, but I wear the stripes as a lacrosse official.  I also officiate soccer.  And Zymurgist for my interest in home brewing.  I have a 5 gallon batch of a Magic Hat #9 clone that went into the fermenter on Jan. 1.  I don't really drink that much so  I need help on the consumption side.

I really can't say how many posts I will make.  As many as make for good conversation.

Looking forward to getting to know everyone and finding if we have a good fit.

Jeff

Welcome, Jeff. Glad you found our league, and I'm hopeful it will be appealing enough for you to hang around and join in with our conversations. So go ahead and get involved anywhere and everywhere you can around here and hopefully we will find a team that you can call your own. I look forward to getting to know you better.

There are 3 of us here that work at MillerCoors, so I hope you aren't trying to put us out of business with the home brew  Very Happy

I've always wondered what it would be like officiating, but I would probably only want to do the one I know, football. Sounds cool man.

MillerCoors connection is interesting. Where and does anyone work in a brewery?

I'll poke around. Already read the bylaws. Looking forward to wildcard weekend from here in frigid NJ.

Yeah I work in the Brewery, but work in the warehouse side where we load the trucks. Not a bad job looking at beer all day  Smile

I can't wait for the playoffs to start there are good match ups, so it should make for some bad ass games. I am a die hard Packer fan so that is the game I'm most excited about. High of -2 at kickoff the tundra is going to be frozen.

Magic Hat #9 is my favorite beer!

We home-brewed that often when I lived in AZ as my best friend had the recipe from the original brewmaster up in Burlington VT...

Welcome.

More home brew. I hope I shouldn't be looking for a new job  Very Happy

Myself, SilverBallers and Madmen work at MillerCoors in Golden Co. We all deal with the finished product though, so by no means are any of us brew masters... that I know of.

Too bad about the Pack! But I have Kaepernick in a playoff pool so I can't say I didn't enjoy the game. Very Happy

I am not from Cleveland. In my early childhood I grew up in the Finger Lakes region of NY. On Sundays the Rochester stations broadcast Bills/Browns games. I'm just barely old enough to have watched the best RB of all time, bar none, so it's Jimmy Brown's fault I've suffered pretty much every year since he retired. I was 8 years old when Brown retired. My father was at Syracuse University when Brown played for the Orange.

Always great to meet up with another home brewer. I'm not a brew master by any stretch. Just a few batches under my belt the last few years.

I'd argue that Walter Payton was the best HB of all-time. Brown may have better numbers as far as yards per carry and yards per game, but that doesn't tell the whole story.

Brown played in 12 game seasons, Payton 16. Payton played 4 more years than Brown.

Brown played behind an OLine with 3 hall of famers on it (probably should have 4) and the best line in recent memory (yes better than Dallas'). Payton played behind a below average line his entire career and not 1 player on that line was as good as the top 5-9 OLineman Brown played with.

The average yards per carry for all other HB's on both teams, not named Brown or Payton is: all other Cleveland (4.52ypc), all other Chicago (3.75ypc). Actually, all other Cleveland HB's have a higher ypc than the careers of LT2, Emmitt and Marshall Faulk. All other Bears have the lowest ypc when you consider any of the bakcups for anyone in the top 10 HB's of all time discussion.

Jim Brown played for freaking Paul Brown on a team that was already the best in the league. Cleveland got to the championship game 6 out of the previous 6 years immediately preceding Brown and won 3 of them. Payton played for Jack Pardee and Neil Armstrong for nost of his career and the Bears were terrible, before Ditka took over at the end of it.

The schedule back in Brown's day was highly unbalanced. They only played 2 out of division games each season and Brown's division was completely pathetic. Only 2 teams won ALL of the Eastern titles during Brown playing days, the Brown and the Giants. The Bears played a more current schedule against many more out of division games and thusly a harder schedule.

Talent was severely diluted around 1960. The AFL formed and a lot of great talent went there. The league went from 12 teams to 22 teams in a span of 2 teams and offensive production blew up due to player dilution.

Brown was certainly a great player but there is more than just the numbers. Brown ran in a straight line and tried to punisher defenders. While Payton also had a punishing running style, he was smooth, crisp, elusive, agile and just plain "Sweet". If both backs were in the NFL today, I truly believe that Payton would have much more success.

I try. Lol. I just remember reading an article about the two several years ago and the above is what I remembered from it. So I'm not taking credit for figuring those things out I just remember them from an article to which I can't cite because I forgot where I read it.

It may take up to one month for us to decide if we feel like you will be a good fit in our league, so I want to remind you to stay engaged in order for us to get to know you better.

If you work at Coors, does that mean you get an unlimited supply of Banquet?
